art journaling away . . . a little bit every day

Some of my favorite art journal pages I did so far in August . . .

I have found the Daily Paper Prompts (DPP) from the Daisy Yellow Art site to be so helpful to me in my quest to do a little something creative every day. Right now I am using this fairly large Dylusions Creative Art Journal. I'm pretty happy with it so far! The pages are medium weight; not thin and not too thick. Fairly sturdy and holding up well to my artistic abuse! I do a lot of "wet" watercolor crayon in my journal. I have a special page on my tumblr where I've added more photos of just the pages in my art journal, you are welcome to view them here.

Below you will see my studio where I work/play.

my studio these days

Soon, in a few weeks, I will travel first to Boston to visit with my 2 sons and their wives, and then I will hop on a plane to Scotland to spend almost a week with my friend, Frieda = Art Quilter. It is somewhat of a dream come true for us! We have been writing emails and sharing art for 10 years and this will be our first time to spend time together in person. I am so excited and I know Frieda is too!! I asked her if I could come at this time so I could view her exhibition of Journal Quilts in person. I'm so, so excited to be able to view her award winning work in person, to spend time with her, to see her beautiful home in the country after seeing many photos, meet her dogs and her husband, to take walks with her, visit gardens, see Scotland - a country I've never seen before! We both keep blipfoto photo journals - a daily photo project Frieda introduced me to in 2010. We're sure to be sharing our visit together there, so you may want to bookmark our sites. Frieda's blipfoto journal is here and my blipfoto journal is here. : )

Art Journaling :: Starburst Tangent No. 1
Part of the Daisy Yellow Tangents and Tactics Series

This was really fun to do! I am currently using the DY Daily Paper prompts by doing them in my art journal. This was something extra that Tammy from Daisy Yellow Art does on Fridays. Find out more about the DY Art Journaling Tangents and Tactics Series HERE. To see more of this page (how I started) and others following the daily paper prompts in my new journal, follow this link : )

ICAD project complete

My last post left off with sharing #16 in my Index card a Day (ICAD) project, a total of 61 index cards done in 61 days. I was not able to post all of the cards individually here, but I did complete the project and wanted to share it with you.

Above you can see the beautiful red cedar box my husband Steve recently made for me to contain all of this year's cards. This box makes it so easy to look through the cards and also makes a lovely display piece. In fact, Steve made me 2 boxes, as this is the second year I have done the challenge. See below.

I find it amusing that for both years I ended the challenge on the 61st card with the stamp, Today . . . Begin. That's pretty much what it is about! The most important thing to do is jump in and start.

I wanted to share a collage of some of the index cards I made this June & July after #16 for this blog, so I used PicMonkey to create a grid collage, below. It's a great FREE photo editor that I use a lot. View all of the ICADs in full, easily by scrolling on my newly redesigned ICAD page. Tumblr blogs are a bit different than blogger blogs and easier (for me) to upload. I was even able to upload using my phone while we were traveling, that's why all the ICADs are there. I tend to share more on my tumblr blog, than here lately. The main page link to find me there is: -click on the little 'eye' icon under the post to read more or comment. I will not be giving up this blogspot blog, but if you wish to follow me, you'll be sure to find me more often on tumblr.

Now that the ICAD project is over, I am using the Daily Paper Prompts from Daisy Yellow in a new art journal. I get up every morning and go right to my art journal and start working with that day's prompt -check my tumblr blog, as that's where I've been posting my pages. I used to go right to my computer and then try to squeeze in my art sometime later in the day. This is much better! I am surprised I did not think of this earlier. Plus, I decided to delete my Facebook account. This has given me a lot more time for my art and photography and I have even been working on totally re-doing my original website. It's been great for me! I do hope all is well with you, hope you stay in touch.
