ABR RR

I am hosting an "Altered Books Revisited Round Robin" this year that is pretty exciting. Our group consists of 6 artists/friends who have worked together exchanging altered books in the past. The group includes Shauna Palmer; who introduced me to altered books back in 2001, Ann Peterson; whom I have done many exchanges with before and whose art I can't get enough of - she truly inspires me, Linda Bean; who came highly recommended to me - she has shared art with others in the group previously and is a awesome addition, Cynthia Weed; whose wild and wonderful art I have always totally enjoyed, and Pilar Pollock; whom I have known and shared art & writing with for perhaps 7 years? I just love her style.

You can check all the pages we've recorded so far on a separate Blog: http://abr-rr.blogspot.com/ More pages will be added as the books pass through my hands or the artists are able to upload them. Above is a spread I did in Pilar's ROCK STAR themed AB - what a great theme & book! This page is about a band called Pearl Harbor & the Explosions! I copied and reduced a record album I had from the late 70's, added black & gold marbled paper spillin' off the edge, water color crayons, and gold metallic pen and stamping. Like it? You'll find more pages of everyone's work so far on the ABR RR Blog!

Circle Pages and Moving!

Here is a close up of some of the 21 Circle pages I have created for my own swap. I just could not resist in following through and making pages so I could participate with all the stellar artists in the circle page swap! To see even more pages and follow all the swaps I am hosting, go to my creative swaps blog.
No journal quilt from me this week I am afraid, and I do not know when I will get back to making them. I am very happy I have made 26 of these journal quilties so far this year, and I know that eventually I will get back to making them . . . . but sometimes life takes precedence! We put our home on the market, sold it very quickly and now the buyers are moving the closing up to September 14th -- so we are scrambling to get packed up & move. Yes, we found a place to go to! It should all work out fine, but is just a little crazy right now!!

art & life!

I did a bit of art lately which was really nice - very relaxing; I will share it with you here. This is the front and back of a page I did for Michelle Dressler's Fabric Book for the FBRR (fabric book round robin) I am participating in! She had a theme of dance for her book and wished for some texture. You can see more from the exchange by following the link above - click on the pictures below for more detail.

I am really happy with the way this page turned out. The images are from Terrie Lightfoot's Lost Art Creations and quite beautiful. I like the richness of the colors and the way cool paper flowers from artchix studio - this was the first time I used them. It was great to create something after the busy-ness we've been though! The news is: we listed our home for sale on Monday. To get ready for this when you are a messy artist with lots of art stuff is a lot of work; not to mention the rest of the house had to get picked up and cleared out too! But we did it . . . I guess we did a good job too, and combine that with a good agent -- because we already have a buyer for our home. They came to see the house on Tuesday, gave us an offer that night, and we signed the contract by Wednesday! There are the usual contingencies to be met and another deposit to be made, but we are slated to close on October 12th. A little unbelievable, but true!

We are looking for a new home, a little larger than our present home and we are fine tuning & zeroing in on one that might fit us very well. Keep us in your thoughts! The one we have our eye on has a separate studio attached to the house with room enough for both Steven & I to work in. Sounds good, eh? He has had no art space really since we moved here because he never got comfortable with the basement; who can blame him! My space was too small to add his drafting table.

Back to creating art - I also recently finished a spread in Shauna Palmer's Altered Book for the Round Robin I am hosting -please go to the ABR RR blog to check it out! I am really enjoying working in altered books again. I first got started with Shauna through an exchange she hosted on art-e-zine back in 2001.

The Garden ATC swap (fabric) I hosted has finished up and I've announced two new swaps! One is an ATC swap held in conjunction with Alpha Stamps on a Mother goose theme - due 10/27/07 and the other is a one for one fabric bag swap due 11/15/07. You can read all the specs on my swaps blog. Please let me know if you are interested in joining as I just have a few open spots left. Even though I will be moving, these swaps will go on! As soon as I know the date and the new address I will let you know. It will work out! The Circle Book page swap is bringing in some fantastic art - due 9/7/07. See the results on the creative swaps blog!

I had the most fun tonight going to see my friend Carla Kurt do her demo at the Flatbread Restaurant in Canton, CT where she has a show of her paintings this month. I did a demo/show at Flatbread in May of this year - see the pics here. My scarves are still hanging there as the owner Brian bought them from me when I did the show! Carla is going to ask Flatbread to donate the proceeds from auctioning off her painting to A place to bark - what a great idea!!!!! here is my favorite picture from the evening - me & carla!

and steve & carla . . . and her paintings and my scarves : )

hope you enjoy!!

Journal Quilt #26!

Click on any photo for a more detailed view - I am certainly not getting one of these journal quilts done every single week this summer . . . but I've still created quite a few and I am going to continue on my journey with them. My original goal was to try to make about 50 of these during the course of the year, so I am just going to keep at it and do what I can and enjoy making them into some sort of wall hanging when I am done! Instead of cranking these out, I have been very busy with other things like a large fabric ATC swap that I just sent out: http://creativeswaps.blogspot.com/ - fabulous participation! Plus we were on vacation in Canada earlier this month and now, we are putting our home on the market and looking for another one that's a little bit bigger. I think Steven would rather wait on this move, as we have only been here for a year, but of course I want to act on the idea and move forward, make things happen & make them better. Typical Lenna! In the meantime we're getting ready to go by cleaning & packing up/de-cluttering and we'll start showing the house next week - unless we change our minds! We have have a lovely home in mind we'd like to buy that's right on a pond for canoeing, swimmimg & skating- direct waterfront. This is tempting Steven . . . . plus a huge loft studio space for me and more room in general. Cosmetic work needs to be done (lots) and we have to sell our house first, so . . . we'll see what happens. That's what's new with us! Here is what I wrote for the back of my 26th journal quilt:

August 8th, 2007 * Journal Quilt Number 26 *

*looking for a nest*

It’s been a while since I’ve created a Journal quilt . . . not since I was on vacation in Canada in July. I have slowed down my productivity (once a week) but I am still going to create these on as regular a basis as I can! My journal quilts may not appear here as frequently as they were – but you will still see them posted. A 6” x 6” square is such a nice size, not too hard to do, enough space to work on, and yet feels satisfying when you are finished.

This week I finished up a very large fabric ATC swap with 37 participants and 266 ATCs to swap – wow! You can see the results here:
http://creativeswaps.blogspot.com/
I was lucky to receive some wonderful fabrics & collage items in lieu of postage or just as a hostess gift from the participants in this swap! This quiltie uses a piece of really interesting fabric send to me by Vicci Henderson from CA and a gorgeous snippet of lace sent to me by Janice Perkin in the UK. I used an ARTchix image from their nature’s beauty creativity kit – the small nest in the bottom right corner. Also from ARTchix are the small green velvet leaves. I wanted to use some things I received from the swap and the bird and the nest goes along with what is going on in my life right now; we are looking for a new home!
